Peter Udo Maurer
Born 1952 in West Germany, has lived in South Africa from 1987 to 2012 and has been taking Photo documentaries for as long as he can remember. He grew up in East Germany behind the iron curtain, where he was sentenced for eleven months to prison for expressing anti-government sentiment. After emigrating back to the West in 1978, he became a freelance writer and photojournalist. He spent one year in Mexico and Guatemala and did an overland journey from Germany to Cape Town 1987, where he fell in love with South Africa. Today he lives with his family in Berlin / Germany, working for several newspapers and online media. 2010 co -author of the Photo book "we don’t cry, we sing ".
Peter passed away in March 2020 after loosing his struggle against cancer.
